Our hearts go out to all of those that have been affected by Hurricane Sandy. As the East Coast continues to rebuild cities, homes, and neighborhoods we hope that this recovery process can be fast and quick for all involved.
Throughout this time it is important to be aware of the legitimate ways that you can help those that have been affected by the hurricane. Unfortunately, with any natural disaster scams seem to pop up, encouraging people to donate to a noble cause. Understanding who you are donating to and doing your research about the company or individual that is asking you for money is extremely important.
Not only do scams start popping up encouraging people to donate to a good cause, but there are also people that claim an investment will appreciate quickly because of Hurricane Sandy. Investing in something that is supposed to appreciate because of Hurricane Sandy is not advisable, more than likely it is a scam.
Fortunately, there are companies that have tried to make the donation and aid process easier. Apple and the Red Cross have created a button within the iTunes account that allows users to donate money to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. This mainstreamed donation process is available for those that are using an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or a Mac or Windows machine. It’s important that every one able and willing lend out a hand to our compatriots who are struggling right now.
As you reach out to those affected by the storm, be wise. Do your research to ensure your money is going to an organization, individual or company that is going to use your money to actually help those affected by the storm recover.
